Evening
Overeatersville - inspired by Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville
Nibblin’ on cheesecake,
Hoping my scales break,
All of my outfits pull at the seams.
Rubbin’ my tummy,
For somethin’ yummy,
French fries with ketchup really sounds good.
Not looking for my lost calorie book.
Some people say that greens are good and meat is bad,
But I know, we have the right to choose.
Revealed my stomach
Ought to go shopping to find a snap.
But pins in a cushion,
Will do in a pinchin’
Why bother with snaps when pins are good.
Not looking for my lost calorie book.
Some people say that greens are good and meat is bad,
But I think, we have the right to choose.
Who cares if my scales break.
It’s my choice and I’ll eat what I choose.
Serve what you want to,
Serve what I want too,
Even best of friends can disagree.
Not looking for my lost calorie book.
Some people say greens are good, and meats are bad,
I know, we have the right to choose.

Baby Tears
I used to be a pinkish yellow flower. I used to be
An overhanging boulder and knew where baby
Tears were cradled. I used to pour my blooms
Down sun bleached paths. I used to flood.
I used to surge, but now I'm barren soil.

Looking Back To Oxford
I took the polar route
To Oxford University.
I read and walked about
The Inner Walls, and
St. Mary's too with spiral
Stone steps going high
And tight. It was a windy
Route atop an Oxford view.
I took a reading route to
Ancient city's library and
Spent my days there reading
Through letters old and worn.
Themes read just the same
Today, and this surprised,
On this, my first trip into
Long ago. You should go.

Super Star
You were a star. You warmed little beaches,
Held earth's circle, and journeyed through space
And time. You lived on the main line and helped
Your planets through their seasons. You were a
Little speck, you swirled in clusters of clusters of
Galaxies. Now I see you're moving off the line,
Just a few millienna, and you'll be a Super Nova

Blindsided Death
Jane Grey and her young husband
Made a claim to her cousin's throne.
Mary Tudor was not impressed. Lady
Jane was Queen for only nine days when
Her husband was beheaded on Tower
Hill. His beheading was a public affair
So as she passed, she saw his headless
Body carted up to the Church. When she
Approached her own block, she was blind.
Blindfold secure, she was made to kneel.
She reached out but her block wasn't near.
Frantic, finally finding, she bent over the slab,
Then she died. Her blood was not contained by
The straw beneath her body. Rats-on-wing feasted.

Forty One And Counting
We sail to where our blurry
Ocean meets the waterline
And sunshine dances her
Distractions. We come for
The nights when our words
Fall away and Mars chases
A crescent moon, under a
Pin-hole sky. You and I go
Down below to test our
Rode. That half moon,
Rusty, hook holds tight.
We know these waters well.

Battle Creek
I headed toward deep water. I scooted
My bum through sand to the shallows,
And waited for someone to notice. No
One did so I floated away unseen.
The deep green lake was clear, bluegills
Jumped, turtles snapped, and I was far
From shore. My rescue was uncertain.

Last Goodbye
Because we heard you were
Gone, but I know you're still
Around. You're polishing that
Super zoom, nailing an action
Shot, and heading for big water.
Life is rushing to a sea of all your
Perfect kindnesses. You are riding
A smooth, glassy tide, feeling no
Pain under the curve of the sky.
Goodbye, old friend.

Horror
With unaccepted coverage,
A tax on employers
With unaccepted coverage,
A tax on individuals
Who fail to buy insurance,
A tax on employers
Who fail to buy insurance,
A tax on anyone who
Fails in full compliance,
A fine on employers, per
Person per day, if coverage
Is deemed unacceptable.

Shovel Digging
Yesterday, but what I
Really want to say is
Sometimes when you
Stand on a hill with your
Mommy and she tries to
Take a picture of you and
A big slice of wind pushes
You backwards, you have
To catch your own self.

Until Spring Comes
She hit her head
Against the wall,
Remembering
The cold wet fall,
That took her summer
Bluebird days, and sent
Her winter's sorrow ways

Flying Beauty
She's running through
Leaves and she's leaping.
Caught in mid-glide, she's
Captured forever, jumping
To all our tomorrows.

More Than You Wanted To Know
I never knew that reading
The Bill would enable such
Mysterious clatter but you
Problably don't want to know,
It's more than too much information.

That Day
About picking sides,
Sizing up competition,
Forgetting combinations,
Hoping for an invitation,
Blushing every kind of red,
Under dripping shower heads,
Grownups sobbing overhead,
Crackling stutter sounds of
Fear and bitter dread. Deep
Despair was on the floor,
It ran down grimy grout,
Down crevices and
Halls like choking
Riverbeds, in '63
When JFK was
Murdered,
Right in
Front

Ice Harvest
In golden blue sky,
Ice is a boy
On a dolphin,
Ice is a harvesting
Pond in the spring
Where masterful
Carvings make thunder.

there's no place to be,
you left, I'm here,
alone, good
morning
gone.
PAD 1 Lonely Poem

Partly of Me
Across the way,
Reminded a memory
Of when I used to be a
Black bear bobbing on
Moonlight sound, belly
Down in the sand. I was
Plowing for silvers on
A flooding tide, diving
For something meaty.
